The Phoenix area real estate market has had a slow recovery from the foreclosure crisis. Real estate expert Mike Orr, creator of The Cromford Report, will provide Phoenix-area real estate reports to the public as the new director of the Center for Real Estate Theory and Practice at the W. P. Carey School of Business.

Environmental expert Joseph M. Sorge testified before the Bernards Township (NJ) Planning Board regarding the Millington Quarry's proposal for topping off the quarry after operations at the site are ended. The location has been considered for residential use and the expert answered questions about the source and testing procedure for soil to be brought in as topsoil or fill.

To reduce the risk of another accident as catastrophic as the Deepwater Horizon explosion and oil spill, a new report from the National Academy of Engineering and National Research Council says, companies involved in offshore drilling should take a "system safety" approach to anticipating and managing possible dangers at every level of operation -- from ensuring the integrity of wells to designing blowout preventers that function "under all foreseeable conditions."  In addition, an enhanced regulatory approach should combine strong industry safety goals with mandatory oversight at critical points during drilling operations. 

Engineering expert Donald C. Winter, former secretary of the Navy, professor of engineering practice at the University of Michigan, and chair of the committee that wrote the report states, "Industry and regulators need to include a factual assessment of all the risks in deepwater drilling operations in their decisions and make the overall safety of the many complex systems involved a top priority."

Construction expert Peter Lehrer led the review of delays and cost over-runs on the I-287 project in Westchester, NY.  Governor Andrew Cuomo ordered the review which has resulted in new reforms designed to keep the  state's highway construction projects on budget and on time.
